I believe your regular GP should have provided you with forward-dated scripts. This situation is completely unacceptable, and I’m truly sorry you had to go through it. You need to make it clear to your GP that if she is going to be away, she must arrange appropriate coverage for you. You absolutely cannot be put in a position where you have to see that other doctor again — the stress is just too overwhelming.

I recently had an awful experience with a female GP who would leave me physically shaking before and after appointments. I am still deeply affected by how she treated me, even thinking about it gives me anxiety. I’ve written a complaint letter to send to Head Office, but I’m scared of potential retaliation. I honestly don’t know what she’s capable of.

Thankfully, my previous GP — who had moved away but is now back — is seeing me again, and he’s fantastic. So things have worked out well in the end, but those three months with the other GP were absolutely terrible.

I’m so sick of being treated like a second-class citizen just because I need a specific type of medication to live a functioning life. I’m furious, for you, for myself, and for everyone else who’s going through the same thing. It’s just not right.

That would be the logical thing to do. But with ever-tightening rules being inflicted upon doctors - and patients - this practice might be impossible. IN the US, even if the prescriber isn't breaking any actual law, just doing something that other doctors in the area aren't doing, such as a forward-dated prescription, could be enough for that professional to lose prescribing rights.

How would a GP loose their license for forward-dating a script? That makes no sense.

Do you think I don’t find it a senseless thing to happen? But it does. There was a Supreme Court case in 2022 involving 2 MDs who had been criminally prosecuted without violating the law, just because the were prescribing higher doses than other doctors in the region, because their patients were sicker. They were prescribing legally-manufactured medications they were licensed o prescribe. The Justices sided with them Unanimously.

Meantime, I personally know two people whose licenses to prescribe were taken from them. Neither had broken the law, neither was arrested. One had been on a state commission for developing prescribing practices. The DEA just showed up one day & their prescribing days were over.

Doctors are supposed to provide evidence-based treatments. Unfortunately many have no capability when it comes to competent analysis of study papers and simply take the abstract and conclusions at face value, without noting that the study design and/or analysis was fatally flawed.

As a result absolute nonsense has made its way into widespread clinical practice and bullshit strategies such as CBT, CFT, and Pain Education have gained deeply unwarranted (and harmful) traction.

It seems it’s women who mostly bear the brunt of this, with females reporting pain believed to be delusional, exaggerating, psychologically disordered, or even addicts. Or just cowardly or lazy. It’s obscene.

How can I help? Do you have a template of a letter I can send to my local MP? Is that who I would contact?

When The Diagnostic & Statistical Manual 5th edition (DSM5) was published in 2013, the American federal agency, National Institutes for Mental Health (NIMH) rejected the manual because it included a diagnostic category that was unsupported by scientific data: Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/side-effects/201305/the-nimh-withdraws-support-for-dsm-5

At that time, NIMH put its money where its mouth was, refusing to fund research into this imaginary affliction.

Today, Opioid Use Disorder research is a priority for NIMH:

https://www.nimh.nih.gov/research/research-funded-by-nimh/research-initiatives/helping-to-end-addiction-long-termr-initiative-nih-heal-initiativer

The NIH HEAL Initiative, of which NIMH is a participating agency, funds research that combines seeking evidence for OUD, seeking treatments that work as well for pain as opioids, and reducing the prescribing of opioids nationwide. NIMH isn't the only federal agency supporting HEAL research. The agencies involved were budgeted over $3 Billion between 2019 and 2023.

Adding responsibly-using pain patients inflated numbers of purported addicts in the US by nearly 400% (but if you count the OUD "sufferers" not yet discovered by the government, the number could rise nearly 600%):

Even cancer patients aren't spared suspicion of OUD:

It’s not just Australia. The US too. My doctors agree I’m no addict. (23 years and at 5 mg. 4 times a day, just because more doesn’t help more. None will do anything anymore, but stupid try-this every six weeks, with failure the only option.) They just sit there and do absolutely nothing, but pretend it’s me, not them.

But now that they’ve ignored me, there is nothing stopping me from telling the truth the next time I see my GP. Only thing he’s worth is prescriptions for cholesterol, sleep, and blood pressure. Who wants to live for decades more in pain, so if he stops them — I save more time and money.
